Wallwork family history of Swinton/Worsley/Pendleton
Email Wallwork History
To date I have traced this branch of the Wallwork family back to Richard Wallwork b 1752 Broomhouse Lane, Pendleton.
I have gone further back but can not guarantee the records so will use Richard Wallwork as a definite ancestral line for the Wallwork family from Swinton.
My Father Bernard Wallwork told me most of the family history, as it was passed down to him from his grandfather Henry Wallwork. I had the help of my Uncle Leo Wallwork who lived in Tasmania and my Auntie Joan Wallwork from Wigan, wife of my Fathers brother Eric Wallwork, cousin Veronica, along with other special family members, to whom I am greatly thankful for their help in preserving our family history for us and future generations to enjoy.
Richard Wallwork was born 1752 he was a shopkeeper in Broomhouse Lane, Pendleton, which to day is called Eccles Old Road. (roughly near Hope/Salford Royal Hospital and Weaste Lane) During the 1700's this road was one of very few roads in the area. Like today it ran to Manchester, it was surrounded by farmland and fields. Broomhouse Lane during the 1700's was a small Hamlet.
Richard owned a weaving shop in Half Street, Broomhouse Lane and 3 cottages which we left to his nephew after his death in 1820 the property was sold in 1843 after the passing of his nephew George Hankinson.
"Hanky Park" in Salford was named after Elizabeth Hankinson's family who were also shop keepers and had shops on the lane where the estate was built.
This is a short version of the family tree, just showing the direct line.
